We at AL's Bike Shop understand that we can only operate because of the efforts made and funds contributed to our local trails. No trails, no riders, no AL's Bike Shop.
Attending MORE MTB dig days and hosting our annual Jump Jam fundraiser, are ways we try to give back to our beloved local Lake Fairfax.
2025 Lake Fairfax Jump Jam Was a Hoot! Thank you to all who attended, rode, and contributed! Had more help, more attendees, further whips, bigger tricks, but most importantly, we raised more money than last year!
2024 marked the first of hopefully infinite annual fundraiser events. AL's Bike Shop teamed up with MORE MTB and Lake Fairfax to deliver a special event with food, prizes, and stoke!

I grew up in the Chantilly, VA but now I live in Arlington. I got into mountain biking in 2020 and have been hooked ever since. I’ve always been into sports—road cycling, MTB, running—if it takes me places, I’m into it. I focus mainly on enduro and downhill, but I’ll never back down from a café ride. You’ll usually find me ripping laps around Hains Point or shredding DH and jumps at The Shed. When I’m not riding, I’m out doing trail work at Lake Fairfax, especially leading up to Al’s annual Fall Jump Jam. Proud to represent Al’s Bike Shop and helping to grow the cycling scene in the DMW.

Howdy! My name is Charles and I was born in raised in Fairfax. I live in Richmond now, but I still spend a lot of time visiting friends and riding bikes in the DMV. I am all about maximizing fun while riding - whatever that is for you, I support it! I have ridden BMX for a long time and only got my first mountain bike in 2020, so I tend to gravitate towards jumps, drops, and jibby features. With that said, I love anything two wheels and riding with friends is when I feel the most whole.

Watermelon, especially refrigerated watermelon after a long day of riding in the summer. I love watermelon man. When I was young, I used to play lacrosse and my favorite thing after a super hot game would be just devouring a cold half of a watermelon.

Hailing from Charlottesville, Virginia, I have been blessed McLean Virginia with a humble presence. I got into biking before covid, but covid put that dog in him. I love downhill riding but also enjoy earning it with a good long climb, with my favorite trail systems featuring long continuous climbs for long descents. Though the winter brings my mileage down for ski season, I emerge from my cave as the first spring flower peeps to participate in the blue ridge school enduro. Through the summer I rotate between bike parks and enduro focused trail systems but frequent snowshoe, WV. I have recently upped my fitness game due to developing EBLS (E biker leg syndrome), with much regret because E-biking is just so much fun. You can find me riding the lake fairfax jumps every week, helping dig when I can. I ride a specialized turbo levo, forbidden druid, and a canyon torque.

Hello! My name is Ian Hazlett and I am originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I bought my first mountain bike in August of 2018, about a month after I moved to NoVa. I started biking for fitness and to learn to ride jumps, but now I use my bikes as excuses to take trips and explore the world and enjoy nature. I really enjoy riding in new places and exploring new trail centers. I tend to ride a lot of bike parks and places with jumps but enjoy a nice ride on the W&OD. When I am not riding I am usually out at Lake Fairfax working on the advanced jump line. I am excited to represent Al’s Bike Shop and to spread the fun of riding bikes.

I am so proud of how I did at Sheduro 2022. I had such great training partners— Dave Corsino, Kris Clark, Shep, Bach, and so many more. But it took a lot out of me. Reminded me that racing puts me in a state of mind that, well, at my age, is not conducive to continuing to ride. I stopped racing after that. But then, this spring 2025, Bryce Downduro decided to run their first race on Old Fashion. I LOVE the flow on Old Fashion!! And this was an opportunity to run the whole trail with no hesitation. So, I signed up. I had the pre-race jitters bad, but as usual, the race community was there for me! First run was kind of a mess – all anxious, manhandling Luna (my enduro), and working against the flow. Realized I didn’t need the full squish, so I dialed it back a bit and ran my second run just enjoying the flow, feeling the hips sway from left to right, just eating up the flow. It felt magical! That was my fastest run, and combined with the first, I placed 1st in Women’s 35+ Cat 2/3!! Reminded me that, even at my age (60 in Jan 2026), you can still accomplish things I thought were out of reach.
Lake Fairfax for local rides. Offers just enough flow and technical options, and I run into lots of fellow riders! It’s my ‘home’ trail. For epic weekend rides, I like Western Slope! But the Shed and Cacapon are close seconds!

I don’t normally listen to music before I ride. Sometimes, if alone and mostly on gravel, I use my phone in my cupholder and listen to upbeat folk/pop music – Norah Kahan, Taylor Swift, Nellie Furtado, Hozier. Otherwise, the sound of wheels down and nature is pretty perfect to me!
